Mary had a private maintenance agreement with her ex-husband, but it wasn't working. Their children were left with no regular child maintenance, so she contacted Child Maintenance Options.
The Options service pointed Mary towards the Child Support Agency, who managed to get regular child maintenance from her ex-husband again. She didn't need to talk to him and the child maintenance was legally enforceable so if the payments stopped, legal action could get them started again.
