Looking for work

If you are looking for work, you need to write a CV (curriculum vitae), giving up-to-date details of your qualifications, work experience and skills. Explain any large gaps in your employment such as if you stopped work to look after a child.

The next step is to think about the types of work that interest you and look for vacancies in these areas.

Where to get help

A Jobcentre Plus personal adviser can discuss your work goals with you. They can also put you in touch with organisations that can help you:

  • write or improve your CV,
  • get access to training,
  • and support you while you’re finding work.

Jobseeker Direct can tell you about the latest job vacancies and send you an application form. They can also contact the employer to arrange an interview. Go to jobseekers.direct.gov.uk, call Jobseeker Direct 0845 606 234 or visit your local Jobcentre.
