Flexible working hours

If you look after a child, you will need to ensure they are cared for when you are working or looking for work. If you want to care for the child yourself, you could think about flexible working hours.

Part-time working

A good way to fit work around your family commitments. If you are claiming Income Support or other benefits, you may be able to get help with childcare costs for up to a year. Speak to a Jobcentre Plus personal adviser for more information.

Job sharing

This is where two people share one full-time job. Some employers are happy to share one job like this. If you and a colleague want to share a job, suggest it to your employer.

Term-time working

This type of work usually means that you don’t receive a wage during school holidays, but your work is classed as permanent rather than seasonal.

Voluntary work

Why not consider doing voluntary work to help you decide whether you enjoy a particular type of work or industry? Voluntary work is unpaid but it’s a great way to get experience.

Find out if you’re eligible for flexible working hours in our Employment rights - pay and conditions section.
