Child maintenance calculator

If you’re trying to agree on an amount for your family-based arrangement, our calculator can give you an indication of the amount that you could expect to pay or receive.

The calculation is based on the rules that the Child Support Agency (CSA) currently use, so you can also use it if you’re making an arrangement through the CSA or the courts.

Our calculator can help you work out net weekly income.

Does the parent without the main day-to-day care receive benefits? *

Please note:
The figure for child maintenance that our calculator provides is only intended to be an estimate. If you choose to arrange child maintenance through the CSA they may calculate a different figure, based on the statutory formula and more exact data.

This calculator doesn't apply to child maintenance calculated by the CSA before March 2003.

There are some circumstances which are not covered by the calculator. These include:

  • where child maintenance will be shared between two or more parents with the main day-to-day care
  • variations for exceptional circumstances.

See which benefits the CSA takes into account

Working Tax Credit is counted as part of net income if the parent without main day to day care's earnings are higher than their partner's earnings. When partners earn the same, we include half of the Working Tax Credit in the child maintenance calculation.
